House OKs Bill Letting Obama Push Global Abortions : 22nd Jun 09
The US House of Representatives has approved a State Department funding bill that pro-lifers say will let the Department promote a new worldwide “right” to kill babies in their mothers’ wombs.
Despite objections from several leading pro-life groups, the House voted 235-187 for the Foreign Affairs Reauthorization Act (HR 2410), and the measure now moves to the Senate for consideration.
There, pro-life senators might try a second time to get a vote on an amendment to make sure the new Office of Global Women’s Issues that President Obama plans to create is not used to promote abortions in other nations.
Americans United for Life (AUL) president Charmaine Yoest warned that “If this act becomes law, it will be a grave injustice to women around the world”.
“Our elected representatives”, she insisted, “have no business using the diplomatic strong-arm of the United States to avidly promote abortion expansion overseas and undermine pro-life laws around the world. I call on the Senate to reject this proposal”. LifeNews.com. June 12.
