F&L Petition Succeeds! No Abortion Ads on UK TV, Radio—for Now : 8th Mar 10

F&L Petition Succeeds! No Abortion Ads on UK TV, Radio—for Now

The British Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) has announced that its new Broadcast Advertising Code, to be published shortly, will not change the rules barring the broadcasting of ads for abortions. In a news release, the BCAP declared that “the regulatory position for advertisements for post-conception advice services will remain unchanged”.

This follows an unprecedented response to the Committee’s consultation that had proposed a new rule to allow abortionists to advertise on broadcast media in the UK (and in many cases to viewers and listeners in Ireland).

No small part of the credit for dissuading BCAP goes to the many thousands of Family & Life supporters who signed our petition.

Though we welcome the decision, we note with concern the conclusion of BCAP’s news release: “BCAP intends to make a separate regulatory statement on this subject [abortion advertising] at the earliest opportunity, but after the new Broadcast Advertising Code has been published”.

Family & Life will be monitoring developments carefully to ensure that BCAP does not ignore the wishes of the thousands who oppose advertising abortions to vulnerable women on TV and radio. BCAP. 1 March. F&L. CLICK TO READ MORE.....
