Serious Consequences of Abortion for Women and Unborn Children Highlighted
Dr Alveda King, niece of assassinated civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jnr., paid a short visit to Ireland recently. She was the keynote speaker on Friday in Stormont Parliament in Northern Ireland at the official launch of the All-Party Pro-Life Group of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
She later travelled to Dublin to attend and event hosted by the Pro-Life Campaign and on Saturday she addressed University College Dublin’s Students for Life Society.
Dr King is a national spokesperson for Silent No More Awareness in the US, a support group comprising of women who had abortions and regret the decision.
She spoke about the serious consequences of abortion for women as well as the unborn child. “I am a member of a group who regret their abortions. I’m post-abortive so I know this. When we abort a child, we violate his or her rights. We the mother suffer tremendously, and our families suffer.”
At the launch of the All-Party Pro-Life Group in Stormont, Chairman of the group, Mr Jeffrey Donaldson MP, MLA, welcomed Dr King to the Assembly and commented on the historic occasion for Northern Ireland with members of different political parties uniting to protect human life.
