Irish Births up 10% in First Three Months of 2008 : 10th Nov 08
The number of babies born in Ireland in the first three months of this year was almost 10% higher than the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the CSO. The statistics agency says more than 19,000 births were recorded in the first quarter of the year.
The average age of mothers during the quarter remained unchanged at just over 31 years. Meanwhile, just over 7,500 deaths were recorded during the three-month period, putting the official death rate at 6.9 per 1,000 population. The Irish Independent.
