UNICEF Pro-Abortion Policies under Scrutiny : 13th Sep 05
According to Dick Hogan of the Irish Family, groups with a major international image, like UNFPA and UNICEF “greatly dislike being associated with the pro-abortion lobby”. However, he said, while the UNFPA has been associated with pro-abortion policies for some years, UNICEF, the UN Children’s Fund, which does so much work for deprived children, “has also supported pro-abortion policies in recent years”. He cites a new study which relies on actual material issued by UNICEF itself — and it shows that the agency the pro-abortion policies of the agency.
Dick Hogan pointed out that it may not suit UNICEF to have this stated publicly, but in a 2000 Family Care International brief, drafted in consultation with UNICEF, it is stated that those involved commit themselves to “changing laws, policies and attitudes that continue to inhibit the full exercise of reproductive and sexual rights” worldwide, including “safe abortion services”.
