Labour TD Takes a ‘Swipe’ at the Unborn

According to columnist Brendan O’Regan of the “Irish Catholic” newspaper, the “Slip of the Week Award” goes to the Irish Labour Party’s Liz McManus TD. Last week on Newstalk’s “Wide Angle” radio programme, she was discussing the issue of abortion in Ireland, when she took a “swipe” at the original Pro-Life Amendment to the Irish Constitution (1983). This, she said, was “put in to the Constitution by the, by the…” She paused. Admitting that “the people” put it there seemed to “stick in her gullet” said O’Regan. So she changed her turn of phrase and continued: “at the instigation of the pro-life movement”. Irish University Audience Hears American Judge on Abortion

The difference between abortion and the death penalty is quite simple—“It is the difference between taking an innocent as opposed to a guilty life”, US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia told an audience in the National University of Ireland UCD, last week. Introduced by Irish Supreme Court judge Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman, who chaired the event, Justice Scalia gave a wide-ranging address to the audience of more than 600 people at the O'Reilly Hall in UCD. Coping with the Trauma of Abortion in Scotland

A feature article in “The Scotsman” newspaper highlighted the trauma faced by women who undergo abortion, focusing particularly on the case of a woman who underwent a late-term abortion just six days after discovering that she was pregnant. “Sarah” said that her boyfriend insisted that she would have to “get rid of it”. Today, she is still haunted by the abortion. “It was just horrendous, absolutely horrendous”, she groaned. “Afterwards I felt so guilty that I didn't want to be alive any more. I didn't eat, I only drank. I think that's what happens to a lot of girls—they drink to forget it.” The Scotsman. CLICK TO READ MORE.....

British Study Links Miscarriage to Abortion

Abortion appears to be linked to increased rates of miscarriages in the UK, according to a new study to be published in “BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology”. The results are from research, conducted by Noreen Maconochie and a team from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, in which over 12,000 women aged between 18-55 were surveyed. The study found that women who had had an abortion are 60% more likely to be at risk of miscarriage. An increased risk of miscarriage was also found to be associated with women who are unmarried and change sexual partners. OneNewsNow. CLICK TO READ MORE.....

Vatican Bishop: Humanity Heading for ‘Self-Genocide’

Bishop Elio Sgreccia, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, and the Vatican’s resident bioethics expert, told a group of journalists that the world is “marching toward a self-genocide of the human race” with the irresponsible use of biotechnologies and the widespread acceptance of the culture of death. Calling them nothing more than a “craving for power,” these technological innovations, he said, aim “to change the order of the human species” and to create “men in the image and likeness of other men who have power.” Bishop Sgreccia blamed the “weakness of the Christian community and the strength of secular society” for the advance of the culture of death. Secular society, he said, “now defends the selecting of children so that each one is perfect, without defect, and the eliminating of those that do not fulfil these conditions.” Sgreccia said the biotechnological “quest for omnipotence …aims to transform the very structure of human nature". Women Hurt by Abortion Take Their Message to the United Nations

A group of women who have been damaged physically and/or psychologically by abortion have taken their message to the United Nations. The group of women, hailing from Canada, know at first-hand the pain and experience of abortion and they will share with international leaders the negative impact abortion has had on their lives and bodies. This “Silent No More” team of women from Canada are participating in a workshop at the United Nations' 51st Conference on the Status of Women (CSW). The major theme for the 2007 CSW is the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and the Canadian women will discuss the violence of abortion and how it damaged their lives and countless others. “Induced abortion is the greatest crime against women and children in this generation”, Denise Mountenay, the group's founder and president, said. “Our mission is to expose the lies and rhetoric of the abortion advocates”, she added.
