How Could Anyone be ‘Happy’ with Abortion?
In a letter to “The Irish Examiner” newspaper, reader Oliver Broderick states, “One of the saddest sentences I have ever read appeared in your issue of September 26.” It was in Catherine Webber’s opinion piece on the Family & Life pro-life cinema advertisement, and it read: “The reality is there are women and couples who are happy with their decision to abort.” “Happy! No regrets?” queried Mr Broderick. “After agreeing to the destruction of their own totally innocent child without judge or jury. Short-term relief—perhaps. But happiness?” Details: CLICK TO READ MORE.....
Findings of ‘Irish Times’ Survey on Abortion Challenged
Dr Ruth Cullen of the Pro-Life Campaign, writing in the “Irish Times” took issue with the findings of their (I.T.) Behaviour & Attitudes poll (September 29th). The poll findings alleged that a majority of women in Ireland favour abortion legislation. “Given the way the questions were framed”, she said, “the results are not all that surprising”. The poll makes no distinction between ethical interventions in pregnancy to save the life of the mother and induced abortion, where the life of the unborn child is directly targeted. This in effect renders the findings meaningless. Details: CLICK TO READ MORE.....

Archbishop of Canterbury Calls for Tighter Abortion Laws

He said that Britain was a “broken society” that could be fixed only with urgent action by the Government and the Church to restore a sense of moral integrity. He added, “The nation generally is getting more unhappy about the high level of abortion in this country. People are not happy about abortion as a backstop to contraception. It's not like having a tooth out.” The Daily Mail. CLICK TO READ MORE.....
Pontifical Academy for Life—‘Monstrous’ To Allow Hybrid Embryos
The decision of British regulators to consider allowing the creation of hybrid embryos for use in medical experiments is "a monstrous act against human dignity," said the president of the Pontifical Academy for Life. Bishop Elio Sgreccia’s comments were in response to the recent ruling of Britain's Human Fertilization and Embryo Authority that it would in principle allow the creation of human-animal embryos. "The British government has given in to the requests of a group of scientists absolutely against morality", Bishop Sgreccia said. Bishop Sgreccia said that Britain's decision marks a turning point: "That frontier, of the crossroads of distinct species, has been overstepped with the go-ahead of the British government.” The 79-year-old prelate added that with this ruling "human dignity is compromised, offended." He said that Machiavellian ethics are being used to justify pursuing a noble cause—the cure of diseases—"with evil means, applied to scientific research." He added, "We find ourselves facing an overthrow of ethics. Or better still: With this go-ahead, we put ourselves completely outside of the scope of ethics and humanity."
