Another Abortion Referendum Unnecessary, Says Dr Brady
The Catholic Primate of Ireland, Archbishop Seán Brady, has said he is satisfied with the present situation where abortion legislation in the State is concerned and that he did not think another referendum on the issue was necessary. He agreed that following the 1992 Supreme Court judgment in the X case, the law on abortion was ambivalent, but added: "Sometimes you have to live with ambivalence in life." The archbishop said he was aware that some people were pushing for legislation to allow abortion in certain circumstances, and said he would oppose any such moves. He also said that abortion was the first item on the agenda when he met Northern Ireland's First Minister the Rev Ian Paisley and a DUP delegation in October of last year, and that they were in agreement on the right to life of the unborn. Public Opinion Supports Tightening of UK Abortion Law
“You can remove a child from the womb, but not out of the heart or the mind”, wrote former Liberal Democrat MP Lord David Alton recently in the “Irish Times”. He cited a new poll which showed huge public unease with current laws. Also, he said, 80 per cent of women said we should prevent abortion by offering attractive alternatives; 93 per cent of women want a legal "right to know" about the physical and psychological consequences of abortion; and seven out of 10 agreed that "making abortion too easily available cheapens the value of young life". This survey shows, he argued, that 40 years after parliament passed the 1967 abortion law, public opinion in the UK has moved dramatically in a pro-life direction. He added, “The 40th anniversary should not be allowed pass without some action being taken on behalf of the unborn. Given its relevance to Ireland, this should be noted in your country too.” Details: CLICK TO READ MORE.....
British Medical Group Says Marie Stopes Abortion Conference All About Expanding the Industry
Marie Stopes International (MSI), one of the largest abortion businesses in the world, recently held a conference in England promoting abortion. But one British medical group says the conference is a “disservice to women” because MSI officials discussed building more abortion facilities rather than how to tell women abortion hurts them. The Christian Medical Fellowship accused the group of failing to meet the real needs of women. Dr Peter Saunders, the general secretary of the Christian Medical Fellowship said, "The title of this conference may be 'Global Safe' but there's nothing safe about it when you consider the impact it could have on hundreds of thousands of lives who may be aborted as a result", he said. "Let's be clear, this conference is all about promoting abortion, rather than caring for the real needs of women," he added. Dr Saunders said that the conference was “preoccupied with promoting the ideology and practice of abortion rather than the genuine healthcare needs of women and children”. LifeNews.com. Pope Benedict XVI: Catholic Pharmacists Should Avoid Abortion, Euthanasia
Pope Benedict XVI had a clear message for Catholic pharmacists recently saying they should avoid any involvement in abortion or euthanasia. His words provide support for pro-life groups trying to protect the rights of pharmacists to opt out of dispensing drugs in such cases. The leader of the Catholic Church spoke to participants at the 25th International Congress of Catholic Pharmacists. He said that their respect for the dignity of human life should compel Catholic pharmacists to avoid practices that destroy human life. "It is not possible to anaesthesise the conscience, for example, when it comes to molecules whose aim is to stop an embryo implanting or to cut short someone's life", the Pope said. The Pontiff also said Catholic pharmacists have a special “educational role” with their patients and must help them to understand the “ethical implications of certain drugs” such as those “whose purpose it is to prevent an embryo from implanting itself or to shorten a person's life.” "Pharmacists must raise awareness [in the public] in order that all human beings are protected from conception to natural death, and that drugs truly play a therapeutic role", he said. International Stem Cell Breakthrough
Scientists announced this week a breakthrough in stem cell research. Two separate groups of scientists (Japanese and American) have been able to create human stem cells with embryonic qualities using human skin and not embryos, proving again that stem cell solutions can be ethical. This discovery will open doors for more research, funding, and the possibility of advancements in cures for debilitating diseases."Once again science is catching up to ethics, proving that the moral way is the most sound, scientific choice. This breakthrough allows scientists to further their research and continue to develop medical advances while still honouring the sanctity of life", said Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America. "Policymakers can safely abandon the politically-charged demand to fund the destruction of embryos to find stem cell solutions." Christian Newswire/Concerned Women of America. The Irish Times.
