Irish Catholic Bishops' Statement on Marriage

At their June meeting recently, the Irish Catholic Bishops addressed the issue of the Christian theology of marriage. In view of recent suggestions that our society should redefine the nature of marriage, sometimes made by individuals or institutions that claim support from Christian ideals, the Bishops reiterated that marriage presupposes the mutuality and complementarity of the sexes. Ethics needed to keep pace with science, he said. The Church did not impose her views and what mattered was: "the appeal to reason and intellectual argument...” The Cardinal observed, "The idea of 'viability', prominent in the debate, is a concept dependent on the availability of resources and technology; not one that is able to found a moral distinction between a life that is worth our respect and protection and one that is not." Abortion Industry's Obscene Profits

In a recent report, LifeNews.com highlighted the tax-subsidized abortion industry in the USA. In April, the annual report for Planned Parenthood Federation of America revealed that the abortion giant had a total income of $1.02 billion -- with reported profits of nearly $115 million. Taxpayers contribute more than $336 million worth of government grants and contracts at both the state and federal levels. That's a third of Planned Parenthood's budget. And what do Americans get for those government incentives? In 2006 alone, 289,750 abortions! According to report, the executives of Planned Parenthood have so far “escaped government scrutiny and public accountability for their predatory behaviour, dangerous medical practices, deception and deadly windfall”.
