UCC Accused of ‘Gross Misrepresentation’ Over its Embryo Research Stance
Responding to the recent decision of the UCC Governing Body to allow human embryonic research take place on campus, Dr Audrey Dillon of the Pro-Life Campaign said, “It's a gross misrepresentation for UCC to claim it has found an ‘ethical solution' to embryo research that does not involve destroying human life.” Under the UCC proposal human embryos are destroyed somewhere else. The university then imports the stem cells to use in its research, hypocritically denying any complicity in the inevitable taking of a human life. Everyone wants to see cures for chronic diseases and “UCC has opted for a socially divisive stance. It has absolutely no authority to speak for the Irish people on...

Irish Births up 10% in First Three Months of 2008
The number of babies born in Ireland in the first three months of this year was almost 10% higher than the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the CSO. Assisted Suicide Does ‘Nothing to Bring About Dignity in Life’
The Scottish government is opposing a parliamentarian's proposal to bring in a law next year which would legalise assisted suicide. Ms Nicola Sturgeon MSP, health minister, says it would not be possible to have "sufficient safeguards" but she welcomes the debate. However, a disabled person has warned of eugenic activities resulting from the legalisation of assisted suicide. Dr Alison Morton-Cooper of Dumfries and Galloway says disabled people are "socially negated" and that their suffering could be alleviated if others tried to...

Non-Terminal People Increasingly Seeking Assisted Suicide in Switzerland
A recent study has revealed that a large number of non-terminally ill men and women are seeking assisted suicide in Switzerland, which has some of the most liberal laws in the world governing the controversial practice. Pro-life commentators have responded saying they not surprised by the findings, claiming that the roots established by the euthanasia movement have created a slippery slope that will ultimately lead to a universal human “right to die.” Researchers from the University of Zurich and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences examined the cases of 421 people who obtained assisted suicide in Switzerland between 2001 and 2004. Susan Fischer, who co-authored the review on assisted suicide in Zurich said, "Being tired of life and in very poor health are becoming more frequent reasons to…Details: CLICK TO READ MORE.....
Cardinal O'Malley: Right to Life ‘Centrepiece’ of Catholic Teaching
By defending the right to life, American Catholic bishops and their flocks bear witness to the "centrepiece" of Catholic teaching as well as the proper "vision of democracy", said Cardinal O'Malley of Boston in a recent statement. Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley wrote the statement in response to a “Boston Globe” inquiry regarding the recent surge of U.S. bishops speaking out against abortion during recent elections. "In defending the cause of life, we are not only fulfilling our vocation as Catholics, but we are also defending the vision of democracy that ... we are all created equal and are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, the first of which is the right to life", he wrote. "Today, this most fundamental human right is...

United Nations Expected to Promote Worldwide Abortion Right With Obama
The United Nations is expected to aggressively promote abortions worldwide with Barack Obama the new president of the United States, according to a LifeNews report. One of the top pro-life lobbyists at the United Nations says he worries the floodgates will come open to perhaps make abortion a universal right. Austin Ruse, the president of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, says the UN and abortion advocates there have held off on extensive abortion discussions because they knew the Bush administration would lobby fellow pro-life nations against its promotion. Those reservations will likely be thrown out the window with a new pro-abortion administration. "There was a frenzy of global UN...
