Candle-light Rosary Procession in Derry City Centre

Precious Life held their annual Candle-light Rosary Procession in Derry on Sunday 11th December. The pro-life group organised the event to pray for the protection of Ireland’s unborn babies and mothers from abortion.

The procession, led by local priest Fr Gary Waide, left Guildhall Square at 4.30pm and moved through the city centre. The banner of 'Our Lady of Guadalupe - Patroness of the Unborn' was carried at the front of the procession.

Precious Life president Bernie Smyth told the crowd "Last month, Pope Benedict XVI thanked pro-life activists for their courageous mission defending the right to life of every human being and defending the Gospel of Life. The Holy Father said that efforts to prevent abortion are writing pages of hope for the future of humanity."

She added "The date for this procession was specially chosen to honour of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady (8th Dec) and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (12th Dec). Through the intercession of Mary, the Mother of Life, this procession has united us in prayer for the sacred cause of defending the Gospel of Life. I urge you all to help us defend the right to life and the dignity of every human being. All the work of Precious Life, all our efforts to prevent abortion - counselling, educating, campaigning, etc, depend on prayer. Please join us in writing pages of hope for the future of humanity."

Bernie Smyth concluded, "With this candle-light procession we are holding up a beacon of hope to the rest of the world. Pro-lifers in other countries are looking to Ireland. We are one of the few remaining countries in the world where killing unborn children is still illegal. Precious Life will ensure it stays that way and mothers and babies are protected from abortion."
