VACCINATING YOUR CHILD—WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Vaccinating Your Child—What You Need to Know

What they don't tell you about certain vaccines. Current MMR vaccine used in Ireland. History of Rubella component. There is no need to use tissue from an aborted baby in order to develop a vaccine. Making alternative vaccines available. Developing an effective ethical vaccination programme. What you can do today.

Timely Appearance of New Vaccine Leaflet

The latest phase of Family & Life’s Ethical Vaccine Campaign has commenced with the publication of a full colour leaflet outlining how the Irish government’s Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine, otherwise known as MMR Three-in-One, was developed from the cell line of an aborted baby. We are calling on the government to provide parents with an ethical alternative.

The current phase of our ethical vaccine campaign coincides with the news that an American pharmaceutical company, VM Biotechnology LLC, based in Seattle, Washington State, is to provide “morally acceptable vaccines to the US market”, that will in no manner be contaminated by foetal material from aborted babies.

At home there is little indication that public health decision-makers in the Department of Health & Children are even aware, still less responsive, to parents’ objections to the contaminated MMR vaccine. Their response to a recent outbreak of Mumps among university students was to decry the low level of vaccine take-up by the general population, and begin a programme of MMR vaccination among college students to counteract the mumps outbreak.

Surely if there is a mumps outbreak, then college students should receive a mumps vaccine instead of a triple one? This is not a rubella outbreak, or a measles outbreak, this is a mumps outbreak. Secondly, they should not receive the tainted MMR. Most students won’t even realise that they are receiving a vaccine derived from aborted babies, let alone that they are receiving three different vaccines for one virus. The most common and effective strain of mumps vaccine is the ethical Jeryl Lynn strain produced by Merck under the name Mumpsvax.

As you will see from the leaflet, which is available from Family & Life, (tel.01 8552790, e-mail: fandl@iol.ie) it is our contention that the Irish Government is fully to blame for the low level of take-up of the MMR vaccine. Many parents, once confronted with the facts about how the current vaccine was derived, choose not to vaccinate their children. While this is a decision that we do not support or advocate, it is nonetheless understandable. (Read the Pontifical Academy for Life’s "Moral Reflections on Vaccines Prepared from Cells Derived from Aborted Human Foetuses", CLICK TO READ MORE.....). If the government were more serious about improving the take-up level of these vaccines, it is a simple matter to provide ethical vaccines.

Please take the time to read the leaflet and become familiar with its content. At the back of the leaflet there is information about what you can do. We are calling on the government to provide ethical alternatives to the current tainted MMR vaccine. Please add your voice to this call.
