Life Day Nationwide Novena

Life Day is a response to the call from Pope John Paul II in his encyclical “Evangelium Vitae”: “I propose that a Day of Life be celebrated every year in every country. The celebration of this day should be planned and carried out with the active participation of all sectors of the local Church. Its primary purpose should be to foster in individual consciences, in families, in the Church and in civil society a recognition of the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. Particular attention should be drawn to the seriousness of abortion and euthanasia, without neglecting other aspects of life which from time to time deserve to be given careful consideration, as occasion and circumstances demand” (E.V. 85).

2011 Nationwide Life Day Novena

7:41 04/01/2011

Each year Family & Life launches its nationwide novena to coincide with Life Day (first Sunday of October). Family & Life's campaign has two parts. The first part is to produce and distribute upward of 200,000 novena prayer cards. These are sent to each parish in Ireland and also distributed by Family & Life volunteers. The second part of the campaign revolves around sending specific resources to parishes throughout Ireland. In 2010, for example, every parish in Ireland received a copy of a DVD outlining the current position of stem cell research. The response to this campaign was a resounding success with many parishes and individuals requesting further free resources for local distribution.
