UN Official Attacks N.I. Law against Abortion

25.07.2019

Adding her voice to the clamour against Northern Ireland’s abortion laws, the United Nations’ Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Kate Gilmore, described the province’s laws as “gender-based violence”
and “in human, cruel and as tantamount to torture”, and called on the Westminster government to intervene in Northern Ireland, overriding the groups that support the current strict law on abortion, namely “fundamentalist” Protestant churches, the Catholic Church and the DUP politicians. Ms Gilmore made this provocative comments at an event organized by The Guardian newspaper. She had previously worked in Amnesty International and the UNFPA. No surprise there!
