Construction of New Maternity Hospital to Begin by End of Year

15.02.2018

Construction on the first phase of the new National Maternity Hospital will begin at the end of this year, outgoing master Dr Rhona Mahony has revealed. The new hospital, which was at the centre of controversy over ownership last year, will be built on the campus of St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin.

Dr Mahony made the announcement at the 61st Charter Day Reception and prize giving ceremony in the Holles Street hospital. It is her last time to address the gathering as she steps down this year after her seven-year term as master comes to an end.

“Approval has been given to issue the letter of Award to the successful Contractor for the Aspergillus Protection works, which will be the first step in the construction of the new National Maternity Hospital on the campus,” she said. “Approval has also been given to issue the tender documents for the pharmacy/car park works associated with the new hospital.”

“Construction is expected to start later this year on these works and so after all, the building begins,” she added.
