Harris Expects 'Family Planning Clinics' to Provide Abortions

19.07.2018

Minister for Health Simon Harris expects that abortions will be provided by family planning clinics after his abortion legislation is passed. A memorandum sent to the Cabinet last week said that while Mr Harris’s preference is to have abortions in early pregnancy delivered by GPs, “he also envisages services being provided by other service providers such as family planning clinics”.

“This approach will help to ensure the availability of services and will also allow women to have a choice of provider where they so wish.”

Before the referendum, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar assured voters that abortion clinics would not be set up in Ireland.
