Heritage Foundation Calls for Bold Pro-Life Action in Congress

03.07.2025

The Heritage Foundation has released a clear and urgent call for the 119th Congress and the Trump Administration to seize the historic opportunity before them to advance pro-life protections and undo the damage of recent years.

With a pro-life majority in both the House and Senate, Heritage warns that while the margins are tight, this is no time for hesitation. Instead, lawmakers should pursue policies that defend the unborn, protect mothers, and respect the conscience rights of healthcare providers.

Among the priorities Heritage highlights is the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would require medical care for babies who survive abortion attempts. Despite passing the House, this bill fell short in the Senate earlier this year, and Heritage urges Congress to continue pushing to protect these vulnerable children.

The Foundation also calls for Congress to make the Hyde Amendment permanent, ending taxpayer funding for elective abortion once and for all. At the same time, they urge lawmakers to defund Planned Parenthood, an organisation that received nearly $800 million in government funding last year while performing over 400,000 abortions.

Heritage also warns about the dangers of abortion pills, calling on Congress to restore safety protocols removed under previous administrations, which have allowed abortion pills to be sent through the mail without in-person medical checks, placing women at risk.

The Foundation further recommends repealing the FACE Act, which has been weaponised against peaceful pro-life activists while offering little protection for churches and pregnancy resource centres that have faced rising attacks.

President Trump, Heritage notes, has already taken steps to reverse pro-abortion policies, including reinstating the Mexico City Policy and defunding international abortion groups, but much remains to be done.

“The pro-life movement has a window of opportunity,” Heritage emphasises. “Now is the time to protect babies, support mothers, and ensure that no one is forced to participate in or pay for abortion.”

Pro-life advocates are encouraged to pray, contact their representatives, and remain vigilant to ensure these life-affirming policies are not delayed or diluted in this critical moment for the protection of the unborn.
