Kamala Harris Doubles Down on Support for Transgender Surgeries in Prison, Sidesteps Sports Fairness Debate

Despite widespread criticism and her 2024 election defeat, former Vice President Kamala Harris remains unapologetic about her support for taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for incarcerated individuals. In her latest book, Harris defends her stance, stating she refused to “turn on transgender people” amid what she described as a wave of “intentional vilification.”
The Trump campaign capitalized on this issue with a pointed ad: “Kamala is for they/them. President Trump is for you.” While Harris concedes the messaging resonated, she dismisses the notion that it was the decisive blow, attributing that view to “middle-aged men” and pundits Democrats have long ignored.
Harris also waded into the contentious debate over biological males competing in female sports. She acknowledged concerns about “muscle mass and unfair athletic advantage,” particularly in contact sports, but offered no concrete policy solution. Instead, she called for “goodwill and common sense” to guide the conversation—without “vilifying children.”
Other Democrats have echoed similar sentiments. Reps. Tom Suozzi and Seth Moulton expressed concern post-election but later voted against legislation banning male participation in girls’ sports. California Gov. Gavin Newsom admitted the issue is “deeply unfair” yet took no action, citing mental health risks for transgender youth.
Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel also weighed in, stating men cannot become women biologically, but still supports parental access to transgender medical interventions for minors.
The Democratic Party’s reluctance to take firm action on fairness in sports, while doubling down on controversial medical policies, continues to alienate key voter blocs—especially those who feel their concerns are dismissed in favor of ideological conformity.
