Maria Steen Launches Presidential Campaign

11.09.2025

Maria Steen, barrister and long-time cultural commentator, has officially launched her campaign to seek a nomination for the Irish presidency. With a platform rooted in constitutional integrity, family values, and the common good, Steen is positioning herself as a principled alternative to the political mainstream.

For over a decade, Steen has been a vocal advocate for Ireland’s foundational values—appearing in print, on radio and television, and in public debate. Her unwavering pro-life stance has been central to her public work, including her opposition to the repeal of the Eighth Amendment and her defense of the right to life.

On her campaign website, Steen outlines her vision: “I stand for families: for their right to stay together, to protect the innocence of their children, to raise them in accordance with our culture and traditions — and to live with dignity in a country that places them first”. She pledges to act as guardian of the Constitution and to restore Ireland’s commitment to the common good—calling for leadership grounded in prudence, justice, and charity.

While the presidency does not set policy, Steen believes the office holds moral weight. “The President cannot set policy, but can remind us who we are and what we stand for,” she writes.

As she seeks the necessary endorsements from county councils or Oireachtas members, Steen’s campaign is rallying those who believe Ireland’s future must be built on its deepest values. Her full platform is available at mariasteen.ie
