Martin Maintains Stance Against FF Grassroots by Appointing Pro-Abortion TD as Deputy

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has appointed Jack Chambers as both deputy leader of Fianna Fáil and Minister for Finance.

Jack Chambers, who was previously on the pro-life side during the abortion referendum, claims to have changed his mind on the issue and now supports abortion. This shift occurred approximately two years ago, a time when abortion numbers had begun to rise significantly. During this period, Micheál Martin had also elevated the pro-abortion wing of the party, sidelining pro-life TDs and senators.

This latest appointment represents a further shift from the party's core roots, which Martin seems to have abandoned in an effort to align with other liberal parties in an increasingly crowded ideological space.
