More on Jane Fonda’s ‘Murder’ Comment

19.06.2023

Pro-lifers have continued to slam far-left actress Jane Fonda, 85, since she appeared on the ABC panel show, The View, on March 10, which we reported last issue. Asked on that show what pro-aborts can do to restore abortion legality besides march and protest, she said, “I’ve thought of murder” and she reiterated, “Murder” after being asked, “What did you say?” The other panellists’ only objection was that her comment would create bad publicity for pro-aborts.

In a later statement, Miss Fonda tried to walk back what she’d said—but to many, as we reported, her demeanor on the show totally indicated she was utterly serious. She insisted her comment was “obviously made in jest”, which was decidedly not obvious. She also claimed she “was using hyperbole to make a point”, which also was clearly…unclear.

Pro-lifers, and not just pro-lifers, say comments such as hers can be “dog whistles” meant to incite attacks by fanatics or otherwise unstable followers. Recall what happened last June in the midst of a nationwide highly charged, incendiary atmosphere over the Supreme Court’s then-imminent Dobbs decision to overturn the 1973 abortion ukase Roe v Wade: near the home of pro-life Justice Brett Kavanaugh one night, police nabbed an armed man intent on killing him.

Murder Was Attempted

In response to Jane Fonda’s comment, pro-life Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (Republican Florida) wrote, “I have notified Capitol Police of Jane Fonda’s call to murder pro-life politicians. Calling for the murder of pro-life politicians is not only dangerous, but it’s incredibly sick. This leads to targeting and can result in someone being seriously hurt.”

Pro-lifers recall an actual murder attempt from six years ago, on June 14, 2017. Far-left James Hodgkinson, 66, who belonged to the Facebook groups “Terminate Republicans” and “The Road to Hell Is Paved with Republicans”, opened fire on congressional Republicans at a baseball field in the DC suburb of Alexandria, Virginia, who were practising for a congressional charity game. Hodgkinson wounded several people and would have hit more, except that law enforcement personnel on hand fired back at him and inflicted wounds that proved fatal.
