My Voice My Choice Initiative: A Step Backwards for Europe’s Unborn
17.12.2025

The European Parliament has voted in favor of the so called, My Voice My Choice initiative, a measure that could see EU funds directed toward increasedabortion access across member states. The resolution passed with 358 votes in favor, 202 against, and 79 abstentions. While supporters of this pro abortion move, including Irish MEP Maria Walsh, hailed the move as a step toward “safe abortion care,” pro-life advocates across Europe have raised serious concerns.
This initiative represents a dangerous precedent: using EU taxpayer money to promote abortion rather than supporting women with life-affirming alternatives. Just weeks before the vote, the European Centre for Law and Justice and the One of Us federation hosted the largest pro-life gathering in the Parliament in over a decade, highlighting testimonies from women harmed by abortion and calling for investment in maternal health, adoption services, and genuine support for mothers.
Framing abortion as “healthcare” ignores the reality that abortion ends a human life. True healthcare should protect both mother and child. Moreover, while the initiative claims participation will be voluntary for member states, however the reality could mean EU-level funding risks pressuring countries that have protections for unborn children to conform to a more radical pro-abortion agenda.
The fact that 202 MEPs opposed the measure demonstrates that Europe remains deeply divided on this issue. For pro-life advocates, the path forward is clear: continue amplifying the voices of women who regret abortion, promote policies that support families, and defend the dignity of every human life from conception.
As the European Commission prepares its proposal by March 2026, we pro lifers must remain vigilant, ensuring that Europe does not abandon its most vulnerable—the unborn—for the sake of political expediency.
