Peadar Tóibín to Address Pro-Life Webinar on Fight to Retain Three-Day Abortion Wait

12.10.2026

Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín TD will address a special pro-life webinar on Wednesday, 21st October, at 7:30pm, examining the ongoing efforts to abolish Ireland’s mandatory three-day waiting period before abortion and what happens next.

Entitled “Protecting the Three-Day Wait – The Latest Developments and What Happens Next,” the webinar will provide an important update on the proposed legislation, recent proceedings at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health, and the implications for the future of the three-day wait.

The three-day waiting period was introduced in 2019 as part of Ireland’s abortion legislation. Supporters regard it as a vital safeguard, allowing women time to reflect on an irreversible decision, while those seeking its abolition argue that it creates unnecessary barriers to accessing abortion services.

Recent committee hearings have brought renewed attention to the evidence underpinning the proposed changes, including questions surrounding consultation, research and the experiences of women who do not proceed with an abortion following their initial appointment.

Peadar Tóibín will discuss what has emerged from these hearings, where the legislation currently stands, and what opportunities remain for members of the public to make their voices heard.

The webinar will also examine what is at stake should the three-day waiting period be abolished.
