SDLP Votes for Horror: Abortion Up to Birth Legalised in Westminster Vote
20.06.2025
In a deeply disturbing move this week, MPs in Westminster voted to decriminalise abortion in England and Wales, stripping away one of the last remaining legal protections for unborn babies. Even more shocking is the fact that the SDLP – once a party that identified as pro-life – voted in favour of this grotesque amendment.
The legislation allows for abortion up to birth, for any reason at every stage of pregnancy. This would remove all criminal sanctions for those who end the life of an unborn child, even during labour. This is not “progress”; this is the brutal erasure of human rights for the most vulnerable.
The implications are chilling. Late-term abortions — often involving babies who could survive outside the womb — can now be carried out without medical supervision. Women will be at greater risk, and unborn children will be left with no legal recognition or protection whatsoever.
This amendment was rushed through Parliament in under two hours, with little debate — a clear attempt to silence opposition and avoid public scrutiny. It is a dark day for human dignity.
The SDLP’s support for this legislation is a betrayal of human rights and their once pro-life roots. Their vote aligns them with an agenda that disregards both maternal welfare and the inherent value of every unborn child.
