Webinar: Two Ministers, One Safeguarding Controversy – Who Is Accountable for 'What’s the T?' in Irish Education?

24.07.2026

How did a book that had been the subject of concerns from parents, a teacher and even a former Government Minister remain on recommended reading lists for young people? And at what point does "I wasn't aware" cease to be a credible answer from those entrusted with safeguarding children?

These important questions will be explored in our upcoming webinar featuring Eugene Garvin of Parents Rights Alliance, interviewed by Paddy Manning.

The discussion follows public exchanges in the Dáil and wider public debate surrounding What's the T? by Juno Dawson. Concerns about the book's explicit sexual content were reportedly raised as far back as 2023 by parents, a teacher and former Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan. Yet both the previous and current Ministers for Education have publicly stated they were unaware of the controversy when questioned.

Our webinar will examine how books come to be promoted through children's reading initiatives, where responsibility ultimately lies for ensuring age-appropriate recommendations, and whether current oversight mechanisms are sufficient. It will also consider the wider issues of parental rights, transparency, accountability and the safeguarding of children within the education system.

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, teacher or simply concerned about child safeguarding, this webinar offers an opportunity to hear an informed discussion on an issue that has raised significant public concern.
