Defeat The Government's Draconian Hate Speech Bill

In the upper house of our parliament, Seanad Éireann, a bill known as the Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022, also referred to as the Hate Speech Bill, is currently stalled. This legislation poses a grave risk to our liberties, granting unprecedented powers to the state, including invasive searches and violating our privacy.

This new Bill gives special attention to what it calls ‘protected characteristics’, which include sexual orientation and gender. In countries where similar laws have been introduced, they have been used to discourage people from speaking their mind, particularly on issues of faith and morality.

Consider also the chilling effect this would have on parents who dare to speak out against inappropriate presentations of transgender ideology in primary schools. They could find themselves labelled as purveyors of hate speech and dragged into court simply for defending their children's innocence.

This is not a far-out prospect. Take, for instance, the case of Dr. Päivi Räsänen, a Finnish doctor and grandmother who faced legal persecution for questioning her church's sponsorship of a Pride event. Despite being exonerated twice, she continues to be harassed by authorities, highlighting the dangers of unchecked governmental power.

With local and European elections just a month away, we have a critical opportunity to hold politicians accountable and oppose this bill. But we need your support to launch a comprehensive campaign.

We have devised a three-part strategy:

1. Mobilizing volunteers to distribute leaflets across the country.
2. Organizing public meetings nationwide to rally support.
3. Launching a social media campaign to reach hundreds of thousands.
