Family & Life launched a nationwide effort to stop the Government’s proposed Hate Speech Bill, legislation that threatens core civil liberties by expanding state power, enabling intrusive searches, and creating vague new offences tied to “protected characteristics” such as gender and sexual orientation.

In countries with similar laws, these measures have been used to silence open discussion on matters of faith, morality, and parental rights, with cases like that of Finnish doctor and grandmother Dr. Päivi Räsänen showing how easily ordinary citizens can face prosecution for expressing long‑held beliefs.

We deployed a strong lobbying campaign carried out before and after general, local and European elections. This project offers a crucial opportunity to hold politicians accountable, and our campaign mobilised many volunteers to distribute leaflets nationwide, organising public meetings to rally communities, and launching a major social media initiative to reach hundreds of thousands.

This is a decisive stand for freedom of speech, parental rights, and the protection of democratic debate in Ireland helped defeat impending Hate speech laws being brought into Ireland and we contiinue the battle as the EU try to introduce it without opposition from our government parties.
